As a recovery ministry, we are not a church. We have no specific church affiliation but instead seek to bring hope and healing to anyone struggling with or directly affected by sexual addiction. As such, we do not have a formal statement of faith regarding our ministry but instead defer such matters to men and women far wiser than ourselves. We simply help men and women seek a firm foundation upon which they can pursue God faithfully, and we encourage all men and women involved to remain strongly connected to their local church, where that foundation is made even stronger.
That being said, we hold these following core beliefs as essential to our pursuit of recovery:
God’s Role in Recovery
We believe that God is the only real means for recovery. No amount of program, accountability or assignment can bring about the peace that so many of us have sought.
Revelation of Scripture
We believe the Bible to be the verbally inspired Word of God, without error in the original writings, and the supreme and final authority in doctrine and practice (2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:21; John 17:17).
Our Recovery Methods
We believe that recovery is but a means used by God to reveal His love and purpose to broken sinners. Although the methods, ideas and programs are well tried, well thought, and, to the best of men’s ability, founded in Scripture, it is God who produces the real change in our lives.
The Objective of our Ministry
“And He said to him, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: you shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the law and the prophets.’”
The Definition of our Love
1 Corinthians 13:4-7
“Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrong doing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.”
The Verification of our Love
“What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.”
The Path to Love
2 Peter 1:3-8
“His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you might become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire. For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
The End Result
1 Timothy 1:5
“The aim of our charge is love that issues from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith.”
By God’s power, the addict may escape corruption of sinful desire in the pursuit of these qualities, ending in love. In such a trust, we pursue greater understanding of the actions needing to be taken, wholly relying upon the Lord and his strength to enable our choice to remain sober. We do so knowing that such growth is given and promised by the Lord.
Therefore all tools, methods and programs we present are used only for the purpose of accomplishing growth as defined in 2 Peter, to the end result of Love. Or, put another way, our goal is not merely sobriety or the “conquering” of addiction, but to the ultimate end of a life devoted to God.
We have been trained and taught in a method that is highly disciplined and structured. From this foundation, we seek to accomplish this goal given by God.
This structure, being man made, is not intended nor can it replace sincere personal devotion to our Lord and Savior. We do not intend nor have any illusions regarding its usefulness apart from God’s working. However, we are confident of the truth that God works through his elect to the working of His perfect will in the lives of others and has anointed us to use the minds given to accomplish these goals. It is our great and honor and blessing to be allowed to take part in this ministry to bound men and their wives. Our confidence does not reside in this method but in God Almighty alone.
- To bring the hope and love of God to addicts and their families
- Demonstrate the awesome grace and power of God in the transformation of addicts and their families
- Disciple leaders built on the unshakable foundation of serving Jesus Christ
1. Bring Hope and Love
We bring hope through demonstration of God’s power in our personal lives and the encouragement seen in the transformation of others. This hope is not merely founded in the arena of “ideas” but also founded in a clearly seen path. We have been thoroughly trained in a disciplined and structured method of ministry to addicts and their families with the intent of helping the most broken find restoration and healing.
2. Demonstrate God’s Power and Grace in Transformed Lives
We are allowed to take part in God’s plan to transform men and women. What place is this more clearly seen than in the broken and destructive lives of sex addicts. Sex addicts are among the most vile men. Because they do not expose clear signs of their hidden behavior, they can remain “underground” for years before final revelation or revealing. They are among the best liars in the world, capable of adamant denial despite all evidence otherwise. And finally, they lack any sense of reality: for having engaged in sexual behavior and denying the reality of God so definitely, they have invited insanity into their lives.
I can think of no better place to show God’s awesome power to transform! We have been given a vision of demonstrating God’s awesome power in this manner. However, we are but simple people, doing the most simple thing: sharing the truth with love. This is foundation of all our methods.
3. Develop Leaders
A man who is forgiven much loves much. This is what Jesus said in Luke 7:47. When a sex addict, or the spouse of a sex addict, finds the power of God to be sufficient for sanity and stability. Upon this foundation understands that there is no means to retain this sanity other than to continue in this radical truth, there is no stronger leader. The men produced through the fires of truth are among the strongest men I have ever known. Having faced their addiction and finding God to be sufficient, they know that nothing is too much for God. Having faced the vileness of their past with full ownership of their behavior, seeking restoration whenever possible, but knowing God’s forgiveness, they know that God is with them always. These men are those who know the truth of God and are willing to pursue God where He leads. Who would not want these leaders!
